Grounds Maintenance Across the South East of England
Turfsoil was founded in 1945 by Leonard Owen Newton. Originally confined to Ministry of Defence sites we have expanded our activities over the years to take in all forms of grounds maintenance, with particular emphasis on high profile sites e.g. parks and playing fields, historic estates, business parks and cemeteries. While still retaining a considerable presence within the Ministry of Defence Estate, we are major contractors to the Royal Parks, local authorities, other public bodies and commercial businesses.
We have a directly employed staff of 120, a turnover of £4 million and our own purpose-built repair facilities. We are committed to delivering high quality and value for money and the length of time that a number of our clients have remained with us is evidence of our success in delivering these. We take our responsibilities to our clients, employees, the environment and other stakeholders seriously, and are accredited to ISO:9001:2008, CHAS, SAFEcontractor and ISO:14001. We hold £10 million of employer's and public liability insurance.
Turfsoil has thrived for over 70 years as a private company in a competitive market, by consistently delivering an innovative high-quality service through well-trained and long-serving staff. Our employees have been central to our winning numerous BALI (British Association of Landscape Industries) and other National Awards for our work over the years. Our clients can feel secure that our experience, combined with the financial security of a strong balance sheet, ensures that we can be depended upon to deliver the desired results.
On the 1st July 2016 Gavin Jones Ltd, the award-winning landscape construction and grounds management company, announced the purchase of the entire share capital of Sofnol Ltd, the parent company of Turfsoil Ltd. John Newton, grandson of Turfsoil’s founder commented: “It is always a wrench to sell a family- owned company, especially one with such a proud record of public service for over 70 years. However, with no family member to succeed, I am very happy to see the Company pass into the safe hands of Gavin Jones Ltd, an organisation with very similar values and standards of service to our own. I am confident that those employees that have served me so well for so long are going to a good home, where their career prospects will be positively enhanced.” Read more
